Architecture Culture

A few minutes drive from our farmhouse is Pontremoli, the ancient settlement and gateway to Tuscany along the Via Francigena. A town with a medieval layout and made up of numerous examples of typical Baroque-era Tuscan palaces.

Historical centre

Discover it by walking and crossing ancient bridges that connect historic squares and noble palaces, amid artisan shops, coffee with ancient flavours and the unmissable outdoor market on Wednesday and Saturday morning, which enlivens the town with numerous local producers arriving from the surrounding countryside.
A fascinating itinerary with the option of discovering its history with local guides to visit the undergrounds of the town hall, the Piagnaro Museum, the Palazzo Dosi-Magnavacca and the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta. Reach the town from the Via dei Chiosi car park, in the most medieval area of the city, near the Castle or otherwise at the station car park, for an itinerary that starts from the Teatro della Rosa, for a route from the Baroque to the medieval period.

The Museum of the Stele Statues

A short car ride away is the ancient Piagnaro Castle which houses the award-winning setting MUST: Museum of the Stele Statues. Anthropomorphic statues dating back to the fourth millennium BC, skilfully lit by a continuum of lights and shadows and positioned just as they were found by archaeologists in the most unexplored places in the area.
The museum opens to the public every day from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and can be easily reached on foot along the streets of the historic centre or via the lift found at Porta Parma in the hamlet of Pontremoli.
